Munich Workshop 1

First workshops for the Munich Circular Construction Hub (CCH)

On 26 February and 1st April 2025, the first two workshops for Munich’s Circular Construction Hub (CCH) took place at Munich Urban Colab. The showcase work in Munich aims to promote the reuse of building materials and develop innovative business models for a circular construction industry.

Led by the City of Munich’s Department of Communal Services, with support from the Circular Economy Coordination Unit of the Department for Climate and Environmental Protection, the workshops brought together a diverse network of stakeholders. UnternehmerTUM facilitated stakeholder engagement and project outlooks, while Berlin-based start-up Concular provided technical expertise.

The first workshop gathered representatives from city departments, state agencies, housing companies, chambers, associations, and universities. The second focused on private-sector perspectives, engaging demolition firms, architects, planners, construction companies, and real estate developers. Participants worked in groups on key challenges for a CCH: demolition processes, storage and reprocessing, component reuse, and legal frameworks. Discussions addressed both “enablers” and “blockers,” clustering and prioritising ideas to guide next steps.

This collaborative start has identified core issues and initial solutions, setting the stage for further development of a component exchange platform at the heart of Munich’s CCH. The next stakeholder workshop in November 2025 will present a first draft concept, continuing the momentum toward a sustainable, circular construction industry.
