Lisbon hosts its first local meeting with construction stakeholders
On 28 May 2025, Lisbon held its first local meeting for the CirCoFin project, marking a key milestone in the city’s commitment to advancing circularity in construction. Organised by Lisboa E-Nova in partnership with GEBALIS, the event gathered stakeholders across the construction sector to discuss how circular practices can shape the future of urban regeneration.
The session opened with remarks from Professor Miguel de Castro Neto, President of Lisboa E-Nova, and Dr. João Carvalhosa, Strategic Planning Coordinator at GEBALIS. Participants explored the main goals of CirCoFin: establishing Circular Construction Hubs (CCHs) that blend physical material banks with digital marketplaces. Key objectives of the meeting included encouraging reflection on circularity in construction, presenting the project’s strategic areas, and identifying priority themes for local implementation.
Lisbon’s showcase focuses on reusing materials from public housing and redevelopment projects, a challenging but promising approach given space constraints. By linking circularity with local economic development, the project aims to transform waste into value while supporting environmental goals.
The workshop concluded with strong engagement from participants, many of whom expressed significant interest in the project and a willingness to contribute to future activities. A follow-up survey conducted by Lisboa E-Nova and GEBALIS confirmed this enthusiasm. Building on this momentum, a new round of conversations with additional sectoral stakeholders is planned after the summer, supporting the continued development of the project’s Pre-Feasibility Assessment.
